Spring Schedule/February Publication Deadline

Dear Guild People,
I figured I should send out word that we will have a meeting next week. The following is the Spring 2009 Schedule. As always, meetings are held at 4:30 in room 1302 of MacLean.

February Tu 10, Th 26
March Tu 3, Th 26
April Tu 7, Th 23

I should have fliers up by Friday or over the weekend.

*FEBRUARY PUBLICATION

This months theme is "Origins"
1. The point at which something comes into existence or from which it derives or is derived.
2. Ancestry: "We cannot escape our origins, however hard we try" (James Baldwin).
3. The fact of originating; rise or derivation: The rumor had its origin in an impulsive remark.
4. Anatomy The point of attachment of a muscle that remains relatively fixed during contraction.
5. Mathematics The point of intersection of coordinate axes, as in the Cartesian coordinate system.

DEADLINE Friday, February 20th. *5 page limit, if you wish to submit a longer piece an excerpt may be chosen.
Submit pieces to jcrone@saic.edu

*The goal is to get out 3 publications this semester at the end of February, March and April. We will be continuing with the one word themes. I'm working on getting more funding for this. Feel free to send ideas for potential themes. Another goal is to have a reading or two.

Another Important Thing: I've heard a couple clusters of people talking about trying to get together some serious, structured writing workshops for short fiction. If you are interested let me know. I would love to point you in the direction of these people. If you want a poetry workshop I can point you towards people. Always remember that the mission of the CWG is to support, promote and involve writers at SAIC. If you want to see something done with writing, let me know, I would love nothing more than to try to make it happen.

Hope to see you all next Tuesday!

Jeni
